OLYMPIC 200-METRE finalist Rasheed Dywer turned in an impressive performance to win the men’s 100m at the G.C. Foster Classics in St Catherine yesterday.

Dwyer, who finished seventh in last year’s 200-metre Olympic final in Tokyo, Japan, clocked a season’s best time 10.14 seconds to win the event.

G.C. Foster’s Kadrian Goldson, who is a training partner of Dwyer at the Sprintec track club, was second in a massive personal best time of 10.15. Emanuel Archibald was third time in a season’s best 10.28.

The 33-year-old Dwyer, who improved on his season’s best time of 10.52 seconds, said he was not surprised that he has run so fast so early in the season, because he has been training well this year.

“I am very happy for the win because, 10.14 seconds so early in the season, I am very pleased about that,” said Dwyer.

“I am not shocked by this, because I have been training very well and I have good training partners.”

Dwyer, who has a best time of 10.10 seconds, added that he is aiming to lower this mark this season.

“I am not going to get ahead of myself, because I am hoping to definitely run a lot faster, and so I am just going to keep on working hard,” he said.

Dwyer, the 2014 Commonwealth Games 200m champion, said he is physically and mentally ready to deal with whatever challenges he may encounter throughout the season.

MENTALLY READY

“At my age, I am very mentally ready and focused, and so the National Trials is just going to be a stepping stone to World Championships, and I am looking forward to that this season,” he said.

Olympian Ronda Whyte, representing Adidas, clocked a season’s best 53.73 seconds to win the women’s 400m ahead of Odeshia Nanton from G.C. Foster, 54.18, and Yanique McNeil of Sprintec, 54.37.

Meanwhile, in the high schools’ section, Immaculate High School’s Gabrielle Lyn led a one-two-three in the girls’ Class One 100m timed finals.

Lyn clocked a wind-aided 12.04 seconds to win heat two of the girls’ Class One 100m.

Her teammate Chanel Honeywell was second overall after winning heat four in a wind-aided 12.08.

Third went to Essence Burbridge, in 12.09.

Kingston College’s (KC) Shavin Hector Charles sped to 10.66 seconds to emerge the overall champion in the boys’ Class One 100m.

His teammate Christian Gabriel was second in a time of 10.73, while third went to Nicoy Whyte of St George’s College, in 11.10.
