Hover Craft for ‘Lindy’ Memorial Mile | Sports

HOVER CRAFT is down in class for Sunday’s ‘Lindy’ Delapenha Memorial at a mile, taking on old rival CRIMSON, who never looked the part when beaten out of sight by imported I’VE GOT MAGIC at seven and a half furlongs two Saturdays ago.
Sent off at cramped odds of 3-5 with Dane Nelson on last, CRIMSON got nowhere close to an easy-going I’VE GOT MAGIC down the backstretch. In the stretch run, CRIMSON struggled to get past his seemingly uninterested stablemate, ATLANTIC BLUE, who hadn’t raced in four months, eventually securing second place a half-furlong out.
However, CRIMSON hails from a sly barn and could reverse his form at the drop of a hat, considering it is a slower pace and he reports seven pounds lighter than 12-year-old HOVER CRAFT.
Since beating EROY and CRIMSON to lift the Mark My Word Trophy in Jason DaCosta’s spirited bid to dethrone Anthony Nunes last season, HOVER CRAFT went on ‘holiday’ for the rest of the year, featuring in three races above his head.
Returning this season, the evergreen He’stherealthing-Royal Pizzaz gelding twice placed third behind the battling pair of CALCULUS and ONEOFAKIND in the first two races of their trilogy, far from disgraced at his advanced age.
Back among overnight allowance company, HOVER CRAFT has topweight 126lb with his major problem being no speed in his corner to keep CRIMSON honest for him to pounce. DaCosta has thrown in TOMOHAWK, who took all day to pull away from non-winners-of-four last time out, bad news for HOVERCRAFT, who will need all the help he can get against Subratie’s trio of CRIMSON, ATLANTIC BLUE, and SENTIENT.
Though he is worst off at the scale, HOVER CRAFT is all business when let off his bridle. He has trained well, 1:16.2 for six furlongs last Saturday morning, confirming his well-being against Subratie’s suspect bunch.
