EVEN though she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship at the University of Technology in Kingston, that hasn’t stopped Sacaj from pursuing her musical aspirations.
On June 4 the singer’s latest single, Steady, was released. Produced by ICI Records, the neo-soul reggae offering is accompanied by a video that was shot in her hometown of Port Maria, St Mary.
“I like to think of myself as eclectic. I pull inspiration from dozens of things, genres, and styles and tailor it with my essence. We can all be doing the same thing but I promise you that what I bring to the table is nothing like anyone has seen before,” Sacaj told the Jamaica Observer.
Her musical style is no doubt influenced by songs she grew up listening to.
“I was introduced to music as child. Growing up, my mom would play artistes like Anita Baker, Jaheim and Stacy Lattisaw around the house all the time and I think that’s where my love for music began,” she shared.
The 20-year-old — who lists entertainers Tanya Stephens, Beres Hammond and Capleton among her favourite artistes — honed her talent on the church choir. She was also part of the music club at St Mary High.
It has been two years since Sajac decided to pursue music and she is determined to have a lasting career.
Given name Danece Alia Jacas, Sacaj has worked with producers including Flydie Wise and ICI Records.
