Geely Auto has created a new company Zeekr to manufacture electric cars and go head-to-head with Tesla.
The first Zeekr cars are expected to be delivered in the third quarter of 2021, with production being undertaken by parent company Geely Holding.
Zeekr said it wants to bring a new electric vehicle to market each year in the coming five years.
Zeekr will become the latest electrification initiative within the wider Geely Holding Group,
It owns Volvo, which recently announced ambitious zero-emission strategies.
Other electrified vehicle brands within Geely Holding, include Lynk & Co, Polestar, LEVC, Geometry.
Lotus Cars, also owned by Geely, has an electric sports car called Evija.
The initial market strategy for Zeekr will be focused on the Chinese market as part of Geely but will also explore export opportunities.
