Jamaica and Miami FC midfielder Jahshaun Anglin appeared in a Florida court yesterday after being accused of sexual assault of a woman.
Anglin, 20, was arrested by Miami-Dade police on Tuesday and charged with one count of sexual battery.
It is alleged that Anglin sexually assaulted a woman in a classroom at Florida International University on that day.
The official police report alleges that Anglin met the woman on a bench near the 11000 block of Southwest 12th Street and the two agreed to meet at another location.
When they arrived, Anglin allegedly asked her to perform a sexual act on him, but she refused. The report then alleges that he put his hands down her underwear and assaulted her. The allegation continues that the woman tried to leave but was prevented from doing so by Anglin. It is then alleged that Anglin performed a sex act on her before fleeing after being spotted by an eyewitness.
IDENTIFIED BY VICTIM
Miami-Dade police say the victim identified Anglin as her abuser before they made the arrest. His bail is set at US$10,000 (close to J$1.5 million).
Miami FC were brief in their acknowledgement of the arrest.
“We are aware of the situation involving a member of The Miami FC, and we are cooperating with local law enforcement officials on this matter,” the club said. “The club has no further comments as it’s an ongoing investigation.”
Anglin, a former Harbour View FC player, has made three appearances for Jamaica and 12 for Miami FC in the United Soccer League (USL) this season.
When contacted yesterday, national senior men’s team manager Roy Simpson said that he is aware of the matter, but he would not be commenting on it.
