Dunbeholden’s Thomas: Teamwork has kept us going | Sports

Dunbeholden’s coach Harold Thomas has predicted that the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) second round will be a lot tougher than the first round after his team completed their first 10 matches with seven wins and a draw.
Dunbeholden defeated Humble Lion 1-0 at Sabina Park yesterday to move into second with 22 points, one less than leaders Waterhouse and one more than third-place Arnett Gardens.
Thomas believes their impressive run will not go unnoticed and because they are not a big, traditional outfit, other clubs will pay them special attention in order to knock them off their perch in the next round.
Nevertheless, he’s pleased with their performances and results and said they will be working even harder to maintain their position.
“We are happy. We worked hard to be where we are and we are going to work even harder to maintain it or improve. So we are satisfied with most things, even though we do not have a lot of resources. But we have internalised many things to get them done and we are happy because everybody has bought into the project and pulling their weight. So the main thing is our teamwork, that has kept us going,” he stated.
Holding second place, as a non-traditional team, has put the St Catherine club into focus, and Thomas expects teams will stop taking them lightly.
“It (attention) always makes it a little more difficult. We will have to up our work level and take it from here. But we worked hard to be here and we will work twice as hard to stay,” he assured.
Humble Lion started the better team yesterday and had the better openings with Vishinul Harris and Andre Clennon threatening early.
Dunbeholden struggled to knit their offence together and looked vulnerable on the break although Atapharoy Bygrave had two great chances and Peter McGregor, one, to take the lead.
Dunbeholden started the second half much better than the first, and McGregor and Bygrave continued to be dangerous. They eventually got the all-important goal when Nicoy Christian slipped a through pass to McGregor, who squared to Bygrave who scored from three yards.
Humble Lion coach, Andrew Price, said his players continue to learn on the job, but revealed that they will be adding to the squad in the now open transfer window.
“We had some opportunities in the first half and should have taken advantage and we didn’t. We need to be more clinical and we need more attacking players. So maybe by the second round we will see some new additions, players who can help us.
“We have already identified players but do not want to name them. But we are definitely looking at attackers,” he stated.
Humble Lion stay ninth in the standings on nine points after the defeat.
In the day’s other game, Molynes beat Portmore United 2-0
