Perennial contenders Kingston College (KC) continued their march in this season’s ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup, following the efficient 5-0 beating of Papine High in their Group ‘C’ encounter at the Ashenhiem Stadium.
KC coach, Ludlow Bernard, has been critical of his players’ attitudes even in instances when his charges have come away comfortable winners.
Yesterday, he was pleased.
“I am pleased with the overall effort, I know we were unlucky to not score more goals but we kept creating chances and hitting the target and that’s acceptable for me,” said Bernard.
The Purples made it four from four to move to 12 points and remain atop the standings with 17 goals for and still yet to concede.
It was total domination for the North Street aggregation who made several changes to their starting line-up with coach Ludlow Bernard keeping his squad rotation policy intact.
From the opening whistle, KC raided the Papine goal and hit the crossbar on some five occasions before finally getting the opener in the 24th minute, when Jerome Barclay fired a left-footed shot which was mishandled by goalkeeper Amaro Tyndale.
DOUBLED LEAD
KC then doubled their lead in the 37th minute, as the towering Christopher Pearson volleyed home from inside the area after the ball was partially cleared by the Papine defence.
The Purples would triple their lead just before the half, as Ron Jay Watson finished off an excellent one-two with Pearson to slot home from close range in minute 44.
The second half saw the KC team going on all-out attack, resulting in a fourth goal in the 53rd minute when Dante McDonald pounced on a loose ball inside the area and meticulously slotted home in the top right corner.
Substitute Nashardo Gibbs would then put the icing on the cake for the Fortis unit following some nifty footwork inside the penalty area to turn and fire home past Tyndale who was Papine’s man of the match between the sticks with five saves from KC’s 11 shots on target.
Losing coach Michael McIntosh conceded that his team was outclassed by a well-prepared KC unit.
“This loss counts for a lot of experience as the quality team we played would have challenged the boys and this can only help them to develop. We are not only looking at the score but we are looking at what the game can do for every player.”
