Jamaica forward Shamar Nicholson may be out of action for a lengthy period as he broke his jaw during a Belgian Pro League game at the weekend.

The 24-year-old, who has four goals and an assist in seven matches this season, was stretchered off in the 59th minute after a collision with a defender in Charleroi’s 1-0 loss to Club Brugge on Saturday.

Nicholson, who has netted two goals the three World Cup qualifying games so far for Jamaica, confirmed his injury on his Instagram page on Sunday.

“Unfortunately, I couldn’t continue the game last night,” he wrote.

“Went into a challenge and passed out for a couple seconds and then rushed to the hospital. Sad news is I broke my jawbone.

“Anyways sad we could not get something out of the game because the team and fans were on top.”

The extent of the injury or how long the player will be sidelined is uncertain. However, such an injury typically requires up to two months to heal.

This means he is likely to miss the Reggae Boyz’s next set of qualifiers in October.

The Reggae Boyz will face the USA on the 7th, Canada on the 10th, and Honduras on the 13th.
