No clear winner for Gibson McCook 4x400s | Sports

ONE OF the events among high school girls at Saturday’s Gibson McCook Relays, which is very hard to predict, is the Open 4×400 with fairly uninspiring performances in the event so far this season.
Edwin Allen High, with their 3 minutes 42.48 seconds clocking at the Western Relays, have the leading time so far, while St Jago with three minutes 46.59 seconds at Camperdown Classics are second best, just ahead of Holmwood Technical, who trailed Edwin Allen at Western Relays with 3:46.98 seconds.
Hydel, who have won the event twice in the last five stagings, in 2018 and 2019, are yet to contest the event this season but the team from Ferry, St Catherine, could be waiting for this Saturday to show their hand. With the likes of Alliah Baker, Daena Dyer and Oneika McAnnuf in their line-up, Hydel have quality quarter-milers and could be considered favourites. The outstanding Brianna Lyston could also be part of the team that lines up over the 1600-metre event.
Despite their dominance in other relays, the Michael Dyke-coached Edwin Allen High have found it very difficult to win this event at this meet. In fact, their last victory came all the way back in 2015 when Saqukine Cameron anchored them to victory. On Saturday, the weight of trying to extend their relay dominance to this event will be on the likes of Kacian Powell and Lenna Lewis.
St Jago have been very disappointing over the years in the event and will be hoping to put up some form of challenge here.
Holmwood have the best quarter-miler among her peers in Toriann Noad, combine that with wins in 2016, 2017 and 2020, they cannot be ruled out. The Dave Anderson-coached team is in a rebuilding phase but could be targeting this one event.
