SIX OF Jamaica’s senior athletes will bow into action on tomorrow’s opening day of the 18th IAAF World Indoor Championships at the Stark Arena in Belgrade, Serbia.

The Championships, which will be the first in four years, with Birmingham, England, hosting the last one in 2018, will have 680 athletes – 372 men and 308 women – representing 137 teams.

Twelve reigning Olympic champions along with 10 defending champions from the Birmingham Championships will be in action.

Briana Williams and Shericka Jackson, two members of the country’s successful 4×100-metre relay female team at the Tokyo Olympics, will be the first set of Jamaicans to bow into action, getting into the blocks for the preliminary round of the Women’s 60 metres at 4:15 a.m. Jamaican time.

Williams, who is ranked fifth in the event with 7.09 seconds, and Jackson, who is the seventh seed at the Championships with 7.12 seconds, will be hoping to advance to the semi-finals, which will be contested at 12:10 p.m. with the final down to take place later at 2:55 p.m.

Olympic Games 400-metre finalist Christopher Taylor will be the next Jamaican in action at 5:00 a.m. With a season best of 46.38 seconds, Taylor will be hoping to advance to the semi-finals of the event, which are slated for 1:10 p.m. Taylor is ranked number 15 in his event.

The final pair of Jamaicans who will be on track duties on the opening day are Olympic 400-metre finalist Stephenie Ann McPherson and Olympic Games 4×400-metre team member Roneisha McGregor, in the semi-final of the women’s 400 at 12:35 p.m.

McPherson, with a season best 51.39 seconds, is sixth in the world, and McGregor with her season best, 52.32, is 16th.

Birmingham shot put silver medallist Danniel Thomas-Dodd will be the sixth and final Jamaican in action tomorrow.

Thomas Dodd, with a season best of 18.80 metres, will be hoping for more silverware when she contests the final of the women’s shot put at 12:55 p.m. Thomas Dodd is ranked 10th in the world this year.
