West Indies coach Courtney Walsh says he is happy with the position his team is in with the regional side on the cusp of a final four berth at the ICC Women’s World Cup in New Zealand.

The West Indies will face winless Pakistan today at 8 p.m. Jamaica time in a day/night encounter in Hamilton.

A win over Pakistan would be enough to seal the deal if India fail to beat Bangladesh. However, two wins from two – with unbeaten South Africa lying in wait in their final game – should see the regional side progress regardless.

For the most part, the West Indies have been cutting it close in their three wins in the tournament so far, including a three-run win over New Zealand, a seven-run win over England and four-run victory over minnows Bangladesh.

There have also been heavy defeats to India and Australia and Walsh is hoping that his team can put those indifferent performances behind and focus on the task at hand.

“The three prior games are now history and we have to focus on this game which is important for us. Yes, we are not happy with how we have lost some wickets and we need our players to bat and bat deep,” said Walsh.

The West Indies who are in the third position in the table with six points have had a few players to thank for their overall outstanding performance, such as Hayley Matthews, captain Stafanie Taylor and wicket-keeper Shemaine Campbelle.

Walsh is now hoping for an all-round team performance as they will need this if they are to progress to the business end of the tournament.

“I’m very, very pleased to be in the position that we’re in now, very happy for the performances of the individuals who have put their hand up, but I still don’t think that we have put together the game that we know we can as a team and have all departments doing well,” the former Jamaica and West Indies captain said.
